Workplace
I have been a hardworking, understanding team member this year. There were some problems in coordinating the workload my partner and I shared. I kept an open mind through them and have become more flexible in completing them. My team role has changed throughout the internship by learning to become more assertive and flexible throughout difficult situations. I have learned to become flexible with recording hours and meeting times. Even when I have other things that need to be done outside of school, I make time to attend my internship. This has shown me to communicate better with my supervisors and residents and learn to schedule all the important activities I have for the month. My contributions impacted the goals of my internship team by making sure the episodes were uploaded on time and that their social media platforms were ready for the submission post of the next new episode. My efforts mattered in getting the bigger job done, no matter how big or small, by making sure the KidsHealthcast kept up to date and running smoothly for the public. No matter how small the job was it impacted the podcast and it showed how much dedication it took emailing the residents for their scripts, recording the residents, editing the podcasts, and uploading them to every social media platform. It made a great deal not only to the team but by the people who need pediatric help or advice.
Career Goals

I am majoring in exercise science with a pre-dental track because of the athletic background I have and the injury experience I have had. The amount of time I spent with athletic coaches and physical therapists has led me to pursue a degree in exercise science. My growing knowledge of how exercise science works on the human body and the ways to prevent injury during exercise has kept my interest high in my major. When my physical therapist explained the recovery journey I had ahead of me and which exercises I would have to do to rehabilitate my knee function aroused my curiosity. It kept me thinking about why and how these exercises were going to benefit me. While also experiencing my rehab journey I have also seen other people going through their recovery and it always kept me wondering why they needed different exercises and different treatments than I do. These experiences have awakened my drive to want to learn more about these topics and why they happen in our journey of life.
My career goal is to become an orthodontist in the dentistry field. I have always been insecure about my smile when I was a little girl. However, when I received braces and had the smile I had always dreamed of, I was unstoppable. I had confidence in myself once again and ever since then, I have wanted to become someone who can provide that specialty to help people who want the same outcome as me. I know many people who are insecure about how their smile looks and will always want to change but don't have the financials to proceed with it. With this, I want to work in this professional field to be able to provide people with the help they need. I also want to represent my culture through this specialty by showing people we can accomplish big things in life and have the motivation to do so too. I want clients to be able to be comfortable with my presence and background because I can relate to them and what they're going through. Helping them reach the goal they want to achieve will feed my drive to continue my work and be able to see their confidence shine through their smile. What would I do to find out if this goal fits my strengths and preferences I would continue to shadow dental clinics and try some hand exercises and activities to see if I can handle the hand mobility strength required by dentistry.

Learning
-
The skills on the survey that I am using so far are working with my intern partner and learning to work independently, but also working on not being afraid to ask for help from my supervisor or intern partner, I am more confident in working with a partner because I was shy at first and not knowing how to communicate with them, but as soon as I started working and asked for advice from them, I got more comfortable asking for their help and learning new ideas from them instead of isolating myself from them. I am using these skills by emailing and texting back and forth with her to revise my work and see if the audios need better editing or if the posts look good before posting them on every platform we have.
-
The skills I would like to continue to work on from the survey is having better attendance with my internship. I am present but not as much as I want to be due to my academic work and classes, taking in part and having my intern partner work on certain projects herself with the supervisor and not me. What I will do to grow this skill is manage my time better and set up a better schedule not only for my things but also for my academic work, so I have time to work on my internship with my partner or my supervisor.
-
My internship has helped me gain a deeper understanding of my coursework and major by helping me gain insight into the pediatric side of the medical environment and how impactful this internship is in helping guardians and parents. I learned how important it was to have resources to inform them and help them understand many things from the medical field. It has given me a different perspective on how we can educate people to learn things about their children and to help them grow to have a healthy lifestyle.
Successes and Challenges:
Elevator Pitch: Our purpose is to publicize health advocacy around Indianapolis and reach others outside Indianapolis. Uploading monthly podcast episodes around pediatric health can help families understand what they are going through and give them helpful tips to help their children stay healthy. Did you know we have uploaded episodes on the IU Medical School Website since 2010?
Success: I have felt successful as an intern when communicating with pediatric department residents. I was nervous at first when I had to email them about their scripts to the residents. I had to conduct a strong introduction of what my partner and I do as interns and how we needed their script at least a week before the recording date. However, I knew I had a strong ability to form a strong email, and I did. I looked at examples from my partner, and I emailed the residents with proper instructors and deadlines. I have never felt more successful in my life in organizing emails than that. Another time I felt successful as an intern was when I made a social media post to promote the new episode I had uploaded. It was the first episode for October, and I created a Halloween theme post using Canva. I used eye-catching fonts and pictures to capture audiences to see and listen to the new episode that I uploaded that day. The final post came out very well put together, and it made the Kids Healthcast social media pages look captivating. Making my first social media posts for the Kids Healthcast made me feel successful. These successes I have learned can be brought into future academic and career goals by showing my future supervisors or healthcare staff how organized I can be with different types of tasks, and no matter how difficult it can be, I will find a way to accomplish it.

Challenges: One thing that was challenging as an intern was remembering to clock in and clock out using the Kuali Time. Every time I was working on an episode, I would clock in, but after I was done, I would forget to clock out. It was difficult for me because I had classwork to work on, exams to study for, and family situations to work on after completing my time with the internship. When I was done looking at scripts or episodes, I would immediately start working on my homework or studying. I solved this issue by communicating with my supervisor, and she made me feel better because she told me how forgetful she would become when clocking out, and it made me feel like I wasn't alone in this situation. I resolved this by setting up a timer to help me remind myself to clock out. Another challenge I had was when I first used the Adobe Premier editing tool. When I first started to edit my first episode, it was hard to maneuver, and I was confused by all the applications it had. There were so many applications placed on this editing tool I didn't know which one to use or how to use it when editing an episode. To resolve this hardship I looked at videos from previous interns to help guide me in what I had to click on and use. This has helped me so much that it became easier with every practice. My internship team has helped me overcome these challenges by giving me the resources they had used with past interns to help me get the hang of things. Most importantly they reflected with me on how people make mistakes and it is okay to make them and learn from them.
